Worksite Assessments

Worksite Assessments involve analysis of an individual's job / work tasks and individual work techniques. The assessment includes recommendations on how to encourage a working posture that will minimise injury and pain to the worker and maximise system productivity. The assessment will include recommendations for any equipment, changes to techniques and any ongoing preventative strategies required.

Vocational Rehabilitation Service

Anchor 2

A major goal of rehabilitation is to get back to work, if it’s possible. This is easier for some people, and a real challenge for others. We know that everyone’s rehabilitation needs are different. But if you can return to work, we want to help you do so – in a timely, safe and sustainable way.

Assist By Design Ltd provides Vocational Rehabilitation Services for ACC throughout Southland. We offer a full range of Vocational Rehabilitation, tailored to you and your circumstances.

You may simply need us to make sure everything is safe and ready for your return. We do this with a Standalone Workplace Assessment.

You may need more rehabilitation and some changes to your workplace or job. Return to Work monitoring will identify what changes should happen, whether they are relatively straightforward or more complex. We will work together with you, your employer and other agencies to get the best outcome possible in your circumstances.

Office Furniture and Equipment Advice

There is a wide variety of office/ergonomic furniture and equipment on the market and it may be difficult to be certain that the equipment will suit everyone in your office or workplace.  We can offer evaluation and advice on individual workstations to ensure optimal set up to prevent or reduce discomfort.  This can reduce injury related costs and maintain the employee in the workplace.

Concussion Service

The Concussion Service helps you to manage and recover from the effects of mild to moderate brain injury. You might be referred to this service by your GP, a hospital, or directly from ACC. At the beginning, we will assess what has happened, and how it is affecting you. Then, over several weeks, we will provide education and guidance on how best to recover. The Concussion Service is also designed to reveal whether you need further services, such as:

  • extra medical assessments

  • a screening neuropsychology assessment (whether your injury is affecting your thinking abilities)

  • input from an allied health professional, such as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist

  • vestibular screening (for balance and spatial awareness)

  • input from a psychologist

Through this service we aim to help you recover from your symptoms, get back to work, and get on with your life

Training for Independence Programmes

After an accident or brain injury you may not be able to do some things you used to take for granted. And you may need to find new ways of doing other things.

We will help you develop new life skills and regain as much independence as possible, so you can make the most of every day.

We will put together a programme specifically for you, centred on your needs and what you want to achieve. You may work with an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, clinical psychologist, speech-language therapist – or any combination of these. We will work together to ensure you get the help and advice you need.

And our team will also draw on the skills of dietitians, or any other health professionals or community groups that can help you gain maximum independence.

Finding the Best Wheelchair For Your Needs

Not all wheelchairs are created equal and what works best for you will depend on your own personal situation. Our occupational therapists can assess your needs and suggest the best wheelchair – simple or complex – for your needs.

Manual Handling

Jane has established an alliance with Provention, an Auckland-based company who have developed quality and innovative manual handling programmes that awaken physical intelligence. Some people are naturally in tune with their bodies and can do physical tasks repetitively, without sustaining an injury; however the vast majority of people need to be enlightened.
